I’m having some trouble with the GIMP?

The other thing is that I can’t figure out how to unselect something. For instance….I’ll use the free transform lasso to select an area on the image I want to change the color balance…after Ive successfully edited the area I can’t get it to “UNSELECT”. I’ve tried changing tools, clicking the picture. I’m so used to Photoshop it’s making me insane. PS. I’m running it on Mac OS X.

MacBook Pro Anti-virus?

I got the 17″ MacBook Pro about a year ago. It has dual 2.6 GHz and 4 GB Ram with a 200 GB Hard drive. It was incredibly fast up until about 2 months ago. I regularly play World of Warcraft and The Sims 2 (Now The Sims 3), yet lately it has taken so much longer to load these games and while they are active and minimized the computer takes an unbearable amount of time to process other things, such as Mozilla and iChat. I had a Boot Camp Partition but removed that and it helped a little bit, for a little while. I have about 90 GB of space free on my Hard Drive, and don’t usually have anything plugged into my computer other than a mouse. Should I look into getting Anti-Virus or Anti-Spyware software? I know Mac OS X is almost impenetrable but I can’t help but feel as though something is causing my computer to be so slow…

P.S. I bought a laptop cooler, but it doesn’t seem to help with the performance, though my laptop is a bit cooler.

PC vs. Mac (how are Macs virus free?)?

I’m a college student, and I want/need to buy a new computer for next fall. I’m looking at the HP 8710p and the Macbook Pro (15″ 2.4GHz, 200GB). I’m going into Purdue Engineering and I know some of the software I will use needs a Windows OS, but the Mac can run both OS X and Vista or XP.

As of now, I’m leaning towards the Mac. It’s lighter, smaller, and has a bigger hard drive. I’m worried because I know that Macs are geared more towards multimedia editing and design and I’ll be doing more calculations and possibly running a CAD program later on down the road in engineering.

any suggestions?

Also, how are Macs immune to viruses?

Well, for everyone who wishes to answer this question, I don’t need you to answer that second question about Macs and viruses.

When I called up to Purdue Engineering to ask about which computer they’d suggest, all they told me was every computer they sell (through Purdue’s store) will be work for any student on campus. And both the Mac and the HP come with a kickass warrenty.
